This is a transcription of an 130, 000+ word document typed by Benjamin J. Salmon in about 30 days to justify his stand on conscientious objection to war to a board of Doctors examining his mental condition at St. Elizabeth's Hospital for the Insane in September 1920. He was diagnosed as Not Insane. Transcribed from the ACLU archives at the Seeley G. Mudd library at Princeton and the St. Elizabeth's case files maintained by the National Archives and Records Administration. Minor spelling and grammar changes were made to match current usage. Footnotes were added by transcriber with information mainly gleaned from Wikipedia.
